Editorial Policy
At FSNews, we want you to know how our articles are made and what you can expect from us. This policy describes how we choose what to cover, how we check it, and what we do when we get something wrong. Our reporters and editors are flight simulation enthusiasts from all around the world, and we write for the community first. Everything below applies to every member of our team.
News
We report on what is happening in flight simulation: releases, updates, announcements, previews and events. Every news article is based on a source that we can point to, and we follow these rules:
- Named sources. We link to the original announcement, whether it is a developer’s website, forum, social media post or Discord server. If a company sent the information directly to us, we say so.
- Facts from the source. Features, prices, dates and compatibility come from the developer or the store, not from guesswork. If something is not confirmed, we say that it is not confirmed.
- Rumours and leaks. We do not present speculation as fact. If we report on unconfirmed information at all, it is clearly labelled as such.
- Our own words. We do not copy press releases. We rewrite the information and add the context that helps you understand why it matters.
We choose what to cover based on what is interesting to our readers, not on who advertises with us.
Reviews
Reviews are the opinion of the reviewer who wrote them, based on their own time with the product. We do not get paid to write reviews, and we never will. Developers often provide us with a free copy of the product. Receiving a copy does not guarantee a review, and it certainly does not guarantee a positive one.
Developers do not see our reviews before they are published and have no say in the verdict. If a developer points out a factual error after publication, we will correct it. We will not change an opinion because somebody disagrees with it.
Membership
We introduced memberships in 2022. Only a small portion of our income is generated by this, making it an alternative way to support financially our team, rather than to replace our primary source of income.
We decided to give our supporters the benefit of being able to choose to have some or all of the website’s advertisements hidden once they log in to their accounts. If we were to decide to accept donations through the typical channels like PayPal, Patreon, or Buy Me a Coffee, i.e., this would not be possible.
We are charging between €2 per month, or €20 per year, because this was never intended to be our primary source of income but rather donations to our incredible team.
Editorials and opinion pieces
Our Originals, including editorials, guides and interviews, give our writers space to share their own views and experience. These articles are published under the author’s name and represent the opinion of the author, which may differ from the opinion of other team members. They are kept in their own sections of the site, so you can always tell them apart from news.
Use of artificial intelligence
We use tools to help us get news to you faster. Rest assured, though, that no article on FSNews is published without a human. Reviews, editorials and interviews are always written by people in full.
Independence
Our editorial team decides what we publish. Advertisers, partners and developers do not. Paying for an advertisement does not buy coverage, a review or a kinder tone. Paid articles are rare, are never reviews, and are always clearly marked. You can read more about how we earn money in our Advertising & Monetization Transparency document.
Members of our team who have a personal or business relationship with a developer do not cover that developer’s products. If such a relationship cannot be avoided, we disclose it in the article.
Corrections and updates
We make mistakes. When we do, we fix them openly:
- Corrections. If an article contained a factual error, we correct it and add a note explaining what was changed.
- Updates. If new information arrives after publication, we add it and mark the article as updated.
- Small fixes. Typos and formatting issues are fixed without a note.
We do not quietly delete articles to hide an error. If you spot something wrong, please tell us through the contact form, on our Discord server, or at hello@fsnews.eu.
Images
Screenshots and images in our articles come from the developers, from our own team, or from sources that allow us to use them. We credit the source where it is known. If we have used your work and you would like it credited differently or removed, get in touch and we will sort it out.
Final word
FSNews has been run by people who love flight simulation since 2019, and your trust is the only reason this site exists. If you believe that we have not followed this policy, write to us. Every complaint is read by the website lead, and we will reply to you.
This policy will change as our work does. When it changes, we will update the date below.
