Felis has released a dedicated freighter variant of its 747-200 Classic for X Plane 12, delivering a fully modeled cargo deck, operational nose and side cargo doors, and cockpit updates specific to freight operations. The 747-200F Classic Cargo is a standalone product, with existing owners of the passenger 747-200 Classic eligible for a discounted upgrade price at checkout.

The Boeing 747-200 Freighter

The Boeing 747-200F was introduced as a factory-built widebody freighter within the second generation of the 747 program, featuring a reinforced cargo structure, a full-length main deck, and hydraulically actuated nose and side doors for rapid palletized loading. The aircraft operated long-haul and transoceanic routes where center of gravity control, door power management, and manual fuel distribution were routine parts of daily operations.

The type served both scheduled cargo networks and charter missions, with major carriers such as Lufthansa Cargo, Cargolux, Martinair, Air Hong Kong, Southern Air, and Atlas Air using the 747-200F or converted variants on intercontinental lanes across the North Atlantic, Pacific, Middle East, and Asia. A small number of classic freighters continue limited operations today with niche operators. These mission profiles parallel the routes sim pilots can recreate in X Plane, whether based on historic widebody cargo schedules or current specialist operations.

Features and Simulation in X Plane 12

The 747-200F Classic Cargo includes a complete main deck interior with rollers, lighting, and freighter-specific fittings. The nose and side cargo doors are fully animated and can be controlled from the main deck or through the electronic flight bag, which also manages load distribution, weight and balance, fuel planning, ground services, and cargo door power logic. Container appearance and placement adjust automatically according to payload zones.

The cockpit incorporates freighter-specific panel updates, including an optional tape-style engine indication set, while retaining the classic analog layout. The aircraft uses GE CF6-50E2 engines, and all exterior and interior surfaces employ full PBR materials optimized for X Plane 12 lighting. A range of freight-related liveries and a complete paint kit are included for custom repaints.

The freighter shares the fuselage, wings, and landing gear of the Felis 747-200 Classic and preserves the same systems depth, including modelled electrical bus logic, hydraulic pressure behaviour, pneumatic and pressurisation systems, dual-loop fire detection, and a manually managed fuel system. Long-range navigation uses a custom CIVA INS installation, and the autopilot and autothrottle support coupled with ILS approaches and auto land. These systems support the long-haul operational profiles typically flown by classic widebody freighters.

Version 1.0.2, released on 20 November 2025, corrects a front panel sticker, adds the default ADC to the non-failure list, resolves a Linux file name issue, and updates cargo object resolution. By combining the original 747-200 systems platform with a complete cargo interior and door mechanisms, the freighter variant supports both classic and contemporary mission profiles without altering the underlying aircraft model.
