We previously reported that JetStream FS held July 17 as a potential release date for their Captain Iceman Series (CIS) Piper Chieftain for X-Plane 12. Iceman and the rest of his team were able to adhere to that plan and successfully make the product available for purchase on the specified date.
To celebrate the successful launch, Captain Iceman himself joined YouTuber and ATPL-rated pilot, Vlad A., for a livestream to showcase the aircraft. The host exhibited some of the unique features of the newly released Chieftain on a short flight in scenic Alaska. Prior to the flight, Captain Iceman answered a few questions from Vlad and the viewers. He continued to be available in the chat once the flight was underway.
Iceman shared the reasoning behind developing the Chieftain, citing his vast real-world experience flying Piper Aircraft. It was also the next logical step performance-wise in the Captain Iceman Series of aircraft. He also emphasized the need to reference the included documentation before operating the CIS Piper Chieftain, and further expanded on some details of the most deeply simulated features of their newest release.
CIS Control Feel was a prominent focus of the preflight question and answer portion of the stream. The JetStream FS lead explained the need for a solution to tackle the differences among hardware controllers, which is a problem that greatly impacts each simmer’s feel for the virtual flight controls. CIS Control Feel was therefore developed to tackle this issue. He went on to say that this feature will be implemented in the previous aircraft of the CIS series and will also be made available for standalone purchase in the future, as it can be integrated into any X-Plane 12 aircraft.
Iceman reiterated his team’s commitment to delivering high-quality, deeply simulated X-Plane 12 aircraft, citing their dedication to providing timely updates to their products. In fact, an update addressing several missing and bugged details in the Chieftain’s animations and 3D model has already been deployed. Sound fixes and an adjustment to the engine exhaust gas temperature (EGT) abuse model round out some of the updates, bringing the CIS Chieftain to version 1.0.1.
Once the flight itself commenced, the host did an extensive presentation of the features of the product. Everything from manual refueling to night lighting and handling during steep turns was on show. An in-depth demonstration of CIS Control Feel and a landing with one engine inoperative formed part of the exhibition of the product. The livestream concluded with several giveaways, including 2 copies of the Chieftain.
While simmers will be occupied for the foreseeable future with the CIS Chieftain, Iceman also hinted that their next project will probably be another member of the Piper aircraft line.
