The flight simulation community is awaiting even more developers to announce the update strategy for their products to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS2024). New among them, the team of Leonardo Software has shared an update about their popular Maddog X, which is a highly detailed simulation of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series.
The Legacy of the MD-80
The Maddog X is based on the original McDonnell Douglas MD-80, a twin-engine airliner beloved by many avgeeks and known for its unique T-tail design. Serving as a workhorse for airlines during the late 20th century, the MD-80 served on short- to medium-haul routes worldwide. Its efficiency and advanced systems for the time made it a popular choice among airlines like Hawaiian Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and Swissair.
Free Upgradeย Confirmed
Leonardo Software has confirmed that the Maddog X will receive a native upgrade for MSFS2024, ensuring compatibility with the new simulator. To the joy of many flight simmers, this upgrade will be free of charge for existing MSFS2020 Maddog X owners. In addition, the team is developing an additional expansion pack that will enhance the the aircraft with updated 3D modeling, textures, and sound quality to meet modern standards. Currently, no estimated release date or visuals of this optional pack have been released.ย
