Orbx has taken to their forums to announce the upcoming release of the Jurassic World: Archipelago expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Developed in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, the add-on brings the hidden islands off the coast of Costa Rica to MSFS. The product delivers all of the iconic islands from the Jurassic World franchise, as seen in the Hollywood films, alongside key real-world Costa Rican locations.
What is Jurassic World: Archipelago?
Jurassic World: Archipelago is an add-on inspired by the franchise, featuring highly detailed recreations of Isla Nublar, Isla Sorna, Isla Matanceros, Isla Muerta, Isla Peña, and Isla Tacaño. In addition, the real-world locations of Herradura Bay Marina and Juan Santamaría International Airport (MROC) have been modelled – albeit with a cinematic twist, as the airport takes on a Jurassic World-themed VIP terminal. This allows sim pilots to head to the mainland, with the Muertes Archipelago just a flight away.

Set in a timeline just before the events of the 2015 instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World, the islands are depicted at a time when the park is operational, yet things aren’t entirely under control. They feature dinosaurs and prehistoric reptiles such as the Brachiosaurus and Velociraptor, along with airborne species like the Pteranodon and Dimorphodon. The flying reptiles can be seen in action in the short teaser below from Orbx.
What Orbx’s Rendition Includes
The Australian-owned developer Orbx partnered with Universal to bring the experience to life, with half a dozen custom airstrips and a dozen helipads. This allows simmers to discover the islands’ challenging terrain, complete with dinosaurs roaming free. While the scenery can be explored freely, several unique flight activities have been integrated into gameplay. These include the chance to transport a VIP and give a guided tour. In addition, there are themed liveries to further immerse players in the storyline.

According to the product FAQ, Orbx is expanding into “branded experiences and next-level storytelling”, and this development is proof of that. Jurassic World: Archipelago is set to release around the end of August or the beginning of September 2025. It will first launch for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC via Orbx Direct, followed by versions planned for Xbox (available exclusively on the Marketplace), Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and X-Plane 12.
