Verticalsim Release New Orleans International Airport For X-Plane 12

Verticalsim took to their Facebook page to announce the rendition of New Orleans International Airport (KMSY/MSY) for X-Plane 12, an upgrade to their previous rendition of this airport for X-Plane 11. The airport is located about 11 miles (18 kilometers) from New Orleans’ downtown area, and it is the biggest airport in the state.

About New Orleans International Airport

The airfield was originally named Moisant Field in memory of aviator John Moisant, who crashed at the site in 1910, with MSY originally standing for Moisant Stock Yards. The current name, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, was adopted in 2005 in honor of the legendary musician during his 100th birth anniversary. With an average elevation of 4.5 feet (1.4 meters), New Orleans Armstrong Int’l is one of the lowest-lying airports in the world.

The airport has only a single terminal with 35 gates and provides connections to various destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and England. It serves as an operating base for the Breeze Airlines. In 2022 over 103,000 aircraft operations occurred, with almost 12 million passengers passing through the airport’s gates.

Verticalsim Add-On Features

The developer used highly detailed PBR textures to model all airport buildings. A few New Orleans metropolitan area VFR landmarks were custom-developed and hand-placed. There is a color-graded satellite scenery of the ground to ensure high realism.

For scenery to work, the SAM Jetways plugin is required, providing animated jetway service to the aircraft. Animated ground workers and car traffic can be spotted on the ground created by the Animated Car Traffic plugin.

Closing Words

The New Orleans International Airport created by Vertical sim is available for purchase at the Verticalsim website or X-Plane store for USD 14.99; for owners of the X-Plane 11 version, the upgrade price is reduced to USD 4.99.
