The developers from 29Palms have announced the release of Santorini Airport and Island for MSFS via their Facebook page. 29Palms is a development group that strives to create sceneries with character. They are dedicated to bringing accurate, highly detailed airports to explore in the simulator.
About Santorini Airport
The Greek island of Santorini is home to Santorini Airport. The island is around 200 km from the Greek mainland and belongs to the Cyclades group of islands. The airport is found on the southeastern side of the island and is both a civilian and military airport. It first began operations in 1972, but military activity today is very minimal.

It has one runway at 7,208ft long and only 30m in width. A parallel taxiway was built and originally marked for runway specification but is now used as just a taxiway. It can accommodate medium-sized aircraft like the B737 and the A320 family. Santorini Airport had its terminal and apron redesigned in 2021 to increase aircraft and passenger capacity. The parking capacity allows for nine airliners simultaneously.
29Palms Santorini Add-on
29Palms add-on covers the entire island of Santorini, not just the airport. It features a mesh terrain of the whole area, significantly enhancing the scenery’s immersion. Along with the terrain, new vegetation has been added in, replacing the old trees, to represent the real-life vegetation. Several well-known points of interest are also present, such as St John’s Church or the Oia Windmills.

Covering the rest of the island, 29Palms has replaced the ports with custom models in very high detail. They have also replaced all default buildings in all the villages on the Island. To make the island feel more lively, the developers have added a fully animated cable car that connects Fira Port with Fira Village. The ports have also received animated vessels departing and arriving from the ports.
To match the details of the rest of the island, the developers have faithfully recreated the airport in full detail. The renovated main terminal building has received a detailed interior. The airport arrivals and departures parking has also been modelled in detail. This goes well with the added dynamic lights to illuminate the airport area.

The fire station and fuel facilities both have been modelled in high detail. To represent the current state of the airport, the new apron layout has been recreated with highly detailed FOD bins, apron vehicles and other objects. Matching the airport in real life, its taxi and runway signs, runway lights and windsocks have also been modelled.

Other smaller details have all been modelled, including the military area and a small church just outside the airport. 29Palms has provided a GSX profile which can be installed via the Contrail App. You can view the remaining features on the add-on page.
29Palms Santorini add-on is available now on the Contrail Store for €21.36. More screenshots of the add-on can also be seen here before you buy. You can read more about 29Palms previous products here. Keep up to date on the latest flight simulator-related news, here on FSNews.
