A380X’s Latest Changes Showcased at FSWeekend, MSFS 2024 Compatibility in Works

During their presentation at FSWeekend, FlyByWire presented latest changes of the A380X as well as mentioned upcoming MSFS 2024 compatibility.

The Airbus A380 from FlyByWire Simulations launched with great success last year, and although it has received just three smaller stable updates since then, it has received much more attention in the Development branch. A FlyByWire Simulations team member presented the latest changes in the Development branch during their presentation at FSWeekend, the largest European flight simulation event.

The “Development branch” is a version of the A380X that is updated weekly with new features and fixes. While it provides more features and a more up-to-date representation of the addon, it might lack overall stability compared to the “Stable branch.”

Philippe from FlyByWire Simulations took his time during the presentation and updated the audience, and community, on what the team has changed and improved on the A380X for MSFS. According to the presentation, the developers have focused primarily on improving existing features. That would include improved engine performance, which is especially visible during the take-off stage, or an overhaul of the Flight Warning System (FWS), which now includes new checklists.

The team has also added new features to the OANS system (airport navigation system), implemented the rudder trim function, and made progress on planning step climbs, FIX INFO, and runway information inputs in the FMC.

The rudder trim function, for example, is no longer just theoretical; it also influences the rudder and rudder pedal position.

During the presentation, Philippe also presented a feature currently being developed – the vertical display, which provides pilots with information on the expected vertical path and terrain in a 2D perspective. This should enhance the addon’s immersion, especially when departing or approaching an airport in a mountainous region.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 support has also been mentioned. Phillippe mentioned that the team is working hard on bringing the A380X to MSFS 2024. No timeframe was given on when we can expect to enjoy the aircraft properly in the latest simulator iteration.
