After five years of development and multiple delays, developer Bluebird Simulations has announced October 23, 2026 as the official release date for its highly anticipated Boeing 757 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Despite the 757 being Bluebird’s first product release, the flight simulator community has been following its development intently since its initial announcement for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
In its announcement posted on Discord and the official Bluebird Simulations website, the developer stated that while missing the most recent release window for Q3 2026 was unfortunate, the delay was a result of ensuring the necessary infrastructure and server capacity to support the thousands of downloads would be present on release day. On release, the Bluebird Simulations 757 will be released as MSFS2020-native, with a MSFS2024-compatible version included in the purchase. A fully native version for the newer simulator is under development, however a release date is yet to be announced.
With the aircraft’s systems, flight dynamics, and sounds currently receiving their final touches, the Bluebird 757 is close to being ready for release. However, according to the developer, the release of SU7 Beta brought with it a few quirks that the developer is working on fixing into the release, ensuring a solid baseline experience before the 2024-native release.
Bluebird Simulations’ 757 is developed as a highly detailed simulation of both the 757-200 and 757-300, with support for Rolls-Royce RB211 and Pratt & Whitney PW2000 engine variants. The aircraft is to feature custom built LNAV and VNAV logic, a fully simulated hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and fuel system architecture, more than 200 functional circuit breakers, and detailed avionics and EICAS logic. As previously showcased, the aircraft will feature a high level of visual and acoustic fidelity, including real-time wing flex, physically based exterior detailing, and unique sound environments tailored to each engine variant.
Concluding the announcement, Bluebird took time to thank the community for supporting, and patiently awaiting the aircraft’s release through its development and a changing sim landscape. The developer also stated, as a reminder, that given the complexity of the addon, minor bugs may emerge after release, but that the team is focused heavily on optimization and critical bug fixing, and plans to respond swiftly to roll out post-launch patches. Further, Bluebird Simulations acknowledged that the drawn out project provided valuable lessons about managing timelines and that it intends to change how it approaches future announcements and release targets.
Now that the addon is on final approach and a release firmly on the horizon, attention is turning to how the aircraft will perform at launch. As the Bluebird 757 will be the first high fidelity Boeing 757 for MSFS, its release is particularly exciting while the iconic “flying pencil” is still in passenger service today.
