Carenado has released the Saab 340B twin-turboprop regional airliner for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The aircraft is now available in the in-sim Marketplace, and the release was announced by Microsoft on the official Microsoft Flight Simulator website.
The Saab 340 was developed in the 1970s and 1980s as a small regional airliner, and the 340B is its improved version. Saab’s history in commercial aviation goes back to the 1940s and the piston-engined Saab 90 Scandia. The company later partnered with the American manufacturer Fairchild on a turboprop design for up to 34 passengers, which gave the type its name. The prototype first flew in January 1983, and the first production 340A entered service in 1984. Saab took over manufacturing completely in 1985 and later introduced the 340B, which has more powerful engines and a redesigned tail.

The simulator version comes in Passenger and Cargo variants. Each has three liveries: SprintAir, Regional Express and a plain white scheme. Regional Express is a well-known Australian regional carrier, so the aircraft fits the short, regional routes the type was built for. The announcement does not describe the aircraft’s systems, cockpit or sound work, so we cannot yet say how deeply it is modelled.
The Carenado Saab 340B is available now in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace for USD $19.99.
