COWS took to their Discord server yesterday to announce the release of a new update for their Diamond DA42 Twinstar for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The update brings many new changes to the aircraft rendition and more importantly, brings compatibility with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

About the Diamond DA42

The Diamond DA42 Twinstar is a four-seat, twin-engine, propeller-driven airplane developed and manufactured by Diamond Aircraft Industries. The aircraft are produced in Austria and Canada; the company itself is an Austrian subsidiary of the Chinese-based Wanfeng Aviation. It was Diamond’s first twin-engine design and the first new European twin-engine airplane in its category in over 25 years. The DA42 also was the first diesel-powered fixed-wing aircraft to perform a non-stop crossing of the North Atlantic.

The Latest Changes

COWS’ latest update to the Diamond DA42 brings it up to version 1.1.4 which includes lots of new changes to the product. The flight model has been tweaked and further loosened, new temperature simulation of the engine block, water, radiators and oil, new gear and hydraulic simulation, and improved oil pressure simulation. Further changes also include improved voltage simulation, better external lighting, a tweaked stall buffet, and random engine variations per user have been added.

MSFS2024-specific changes for the Diamond DA42 include fixed rudder inputs, low oil pressure, aircraft spawning cold and out of trim, G1000 not working for certain simmers, and random nose gear clunk sounds. The update also brings some changes to the aircraft’s 3D model namely removing excess dirt, updating the thumbnails for the new sim, refining the geometry and shading on the TDI engine, and restructuring glass objects.

Closing Notes

COWS also further stated that the MSFS2024 package will only be available via the Orbx Store as the in-sim Marketplace is not yet functional. The team will update us once MSFS Marketplace availability is confirmed. Users on the MSFS2020 platform can update their package as they usually would.
