A new UK-based developer, CRZ Studio Ltd, has emerged in the Microsoft Flight Simulator scene with their debut product, the Chinook SJ. Developed exclusively for MSFS 2024, the add-on is a highly detailed recreation of the Aeroplane Manufactory Chinook SJ. The ultralight, homebuilt bush aircraft is known for its exceptional STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) performance.
The Aeroplane Manufactory Chinook SJ
The real-world SJ variant of the Chinook reflects significant modifications from the Chinook DR. With an extended body tube, an enlarged rear fuselage, and a taller front cabin, the aircraft allows for increased passenger or flight instructor space. The modifications enable the aircraft to withstand the demands of flight training and extreme bush flying conditions. As a light-sport aircraft, it features an increased surface area for the flight surfaces, two 10-gallon internal aluminium wing tanks as standard, and a larger tailwheel, particularly useful for STOL operations.

CRZ Studio’s Virtual Rendition
Developed using real-world aircraft assembly manuals, CRZ Studio has modelled every part of the aircraft. As it has been built from the ground up using MSFS 2024’s SDK, this has given the developer the capability to model each nut and bolt with incredible detail. The developer has also taken advantage of the modular aircraft system and PBR texturing, which enhances the immersion for pilots as aircraft variants feel more authentic.
Although the aircraft is currently modelled with a Rotax 582UL engine, CRZ Studio have made clear that their v1.1 update will include a range of additions. This includes and is not limited to an optional Rotax 912 engine, a custom sound set for both the Rotax 582 and 912, and a new Sport Light DR2 variant. In addition, a “Dan Reynolds Valdez Special”, celebrating the record-breaking Chinook variant with unique features and performance upgrades, is set to be delivered in a DLC expansion.

Closing Notes
The SJ variant lends itself to simmers of all backgrounds with its bush flying and STOL capabilities alongside its ultralight design. Pilots can expect an aircraft capable of exploring all sorts of challenging terrain. The developer notes that they’re “thrilled to join the flight simulation community” and “look forward to delivering many more high-quality addons in the years ahead”.
The Chinook SJ is available for purchase from CRZ Studio’s website for £(GBP)19.95. The product is also set to release on the MSFS Marketplace and other vendors shortly.
