Fenix Simulations released a blog post detailing the compatibility of their add-ons with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The post also included some MSFS 2020 changes made to their aircraft. This initial update by Fenix has brought compatibility free of charge for MSFS 2024.
Fenix Simulations MSFS 2024 Compatibility
An initial update has been released, bringing compatibility with MSFS 2024 for all customers. This update is free for previous 2020 customers. It was mentioned that this update was not just a ported 2020 version. Fenix has rebuilt the package with the new 2024 SDK. This has allowed them to take advantage of some of the new features present in 2024.

When the team has had more time to review the new SDK, they will begin exploring the new features. These include the modular SimObject system and an “enhanced” walk-around mode for all of their aircraft. Despite this update, Fenix has left a disclaimer regarding compatibility. While compatibility is present for MSFS 2024, it is still entirely experimental and not an advertised “feature.”
Known MSFS 2024 Issues
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is still relatively new, and some issues are present. Some of these have been affecting third-party developers like Fenix. Fenix was not given developer access to the platform. This means they have only had it as long as we have had it. To enter any Fenix aircraft, you need to press Shift + C. The developers plan to add click spots later on to enter the aircraft.
Other issues include missing livery thumbnails for liveries installed in the livery manager and from outside sources. This will be addressed in a later update by the team. Lights are also too dim during the day, which has been known to affect most 2024 aircraft. Sounds will also occasionally disappear, another known 2024 issue.
Detail/normal maps are currently missing on some surfaces. This will be addressed in the first major patch. Cockpit display brightness and reflectivity are also inconsistent at times. Using the EFB may require a few clicks to get it to work. It was also noted that the installer may take slightly longer at the “scanning” stage, but this will be optimised later on.
Fenix Updates to Both MSFS 2020 and 2024
All of the following changes apply to both the 2020 and 2024 versions of their aircraft unless otherwise mentioned. Fenix has attempted further fixes at crazy wingflex flapping and FBW oscillations. This has also seen the FBW normal law retuned after customer feedback. 4x SimRate will now also be supported experimentally.
One big change is the airmass temperature simulation. This has been rebuilt to take into account the factors of human-to-cabin environment heat exchange. This essentially means that passengers now give off the correct amount of heat to the airmass simulation. Doors will also now affect the overall airmass temperature simulation.
Fenix included a large list of other changes made in this update, including some changes for MSFS 2024. Working wipers are now native in MSFS 2024 using the new SDK. Collision has also been added to stairs to support the new 2024 walk-around feature. The Fenix installer now has support for installing multiple simulators and automatic camera preset file copying between 2020 and 2024.
As MSFS 2024 continues to receive updates, Fenix will look at leveraging the simulator’s newest features. More patches from Fenix will be released to address current known issues in MSFS 2024. For more flight simulator-related news, check out the rest of FSNews.
