The team over at FlightFX has released a massive update to their Cessna Citation X for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The announcement on their Discord server was accompanied by a YouTube trailer video highlighting some of the major changes bringing the FlightFX Cessna Citation X to V2, officially version 2.1.4. The development group was happy to note that almost no part of the aircraft was left untouched by this update
Headlining the lengthy update changelog is the addition of FlightFX’s new Inertial Immersion System to the Citation X, which elevates the simulation experience by providing tailor-made body and inertia effects. Ground roll, touchdown, rattles, shakes, and vibration effects are just some of the features of this system designed to give the simmer a more complete experience when flying the Citation X.
The aircraft’s avionics and systems were a huge focus of this update, according to the comprehensive changelog, with Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS), Enhanced GPWS, and full missed approach support being added. The lateral navigation computer of Citation X’s P2000 Avionics Suite underwent a major overhaul, resolving significant issues with missed sequencing and instrument desynchronization, and adding and fixing numerous items across several pages and data fields.
FlightFX has gone as far as fixing color inaccuracies on the flight plan page of the Flight Management Computer (FMC), showing the depth and extent of this update. Continuing with the topic of visuals, they’ve made sweeping optimizations to the art and texture work, as well as the addition of a custom wingflex simulation. The Citation X V2’s wingflex was carefully crafted to mimic the real movement of the aircraft’s short, stiff wings, and reacts to the Inertial Immersion System.
The built-in Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) also received a major rework. Apart from a fresh new look with new home screen icons and background, there were upgrades to make the EFB more useful as well. These include a new Simbrief app for seamless integration of generated flight plans, new map modes, and native MSFS 2024 LIDO chart access. Other general features of V2 that are MSFS 2024-specific include windshield scratch textures and iridescence, full native walkaround mode, and VIP Transport specialization in Career mode.
The V2 update has been released only for the MSFS 2024 version of the aircraft so far. FlightFX closed out the Discord announcement by stating that their next steps will be “backporting every applicable fix and improvement that can reasonably be brought across to MSFS 2020“. This is because the capabilities and features between the two platforms have continued to diverge as time has gone on, making it increasingly difficult to deliver the same experience on both sims. This will be the final planned update for the MSFS 2020 version of the Citation X, which will switch to maintenance-only status thereafter.
