Headwind Simulations Reassures A330neo and Superjet for MSFS Are Not Dead

Headwind Simulations says work continues on the A330-900neo, A330-800neo and Superjet 100 for MSFS, including MSFS 2024 plans. No release dates given.

Headwind Simulations has published a development update on its A330-900neo, A330-800neo and Sukhoi Superjet 100 projects for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The post was shared with the community on its Discord server, and opens by saying the studio is “not dead”. Development has continued behind the scenes, the team says, despite a quiet period in public.

The most advanced of the three is the A330-900neo, known as the A339X. The A330-900 is the larger of the two re-engined A330neo variants, built by Airbus and fitted with new-generation Rolls-Royce engines. According to the developer, work on the A339X is focused on reviewing the exterior geometry, landing gear, animations and overall model structure. The team is also refining textures and materials and continuing to improve its systems architecture. Headwind adds that it is evaluating how to modernise the aircraft for MSFS 2024 and take advantage of the newer simulator’s capabilities.

The A330-800neo (A338X) remains part of the plan. The A330-800 is the shorter fuselage version of the neo family, and it has been ordered in far smaller numbers than the -900. Headwind says it is reviewing the geometry and configuration differences between the two variants and working toward a shared development foundation with the A339X. The team also plans common improvements to systems, models and functionality across both aircraft. The stated goal is to make development across the A330 family “more consistent, maintainable, and efficient”.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SU95X) has not been forgotten either, according to the team. The SSJ100 is a Russian twin-engine regional jet that entered service in the early 2010s. Headwind says work continues on the aircraft’s models, systems integration and overall modernisation, including its plans for MSFS 2024.

The developer says it is focusing on building a stronger foundation for its aircraft rather than rushing releases or promising dates it cannot guarantee. Accordingly, no release dates, prices or beta timelines were given for any of the three aircraft. The team signed off by saying it has more to share “when we’re ready”.
