Horizon Simulations has shared a new development update on the upcoming Boeing 787 Version 2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is set to introduce significant improvements to systems depth and visual fidelity for the Boeing widebody.
In a recent post on the developer’s Discord server, accompanied by three new preview images showcasing the latest texture work, Horizon Simulations co-founder Toby C. provided a brief update on the project’s progress. The update also offers a glimpse at the team’s current development priorities as work on the freeware Dreamliner continues.

As this updated version of the 787 continues to take shape, a major focus has been placed on the aircraft’s textures, which are being created in collaboration with texture expert HUES. Exterior details on the main landing gear and wing now feature highly realistic wear and markings, reflecting the state-of-the-art texture work the sim community has come to expect from HUES.
From Looks to Logic
Alongside these visual improvements, development has resumed on the aircraft’s systems following a short summer break, with work on a more in-depth simulation of the electrical systems and expanded EFB functionality currently in progress. If these improvements maintain a similar standard to the work Horizon has previously put into overhauling the 787’s systems, those anxiously waiting for an up-to-date, high-fidelity add-on of the Dreamliner are sure to be satisfied.
