Known for their prolific production of high-quality freeware liveries and immersive 3D assets for many of our favorite Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 aircraft, the creative collective HUES has announced that their releases will no longer be published on one of the most popular websites for freeware MSFS addons, Flightsim.to. In a statement shared via the group’s Discord server, it was announced that this change goes into immediate effect.
The move was prompted by information reaching the group indicating that Flightsim.to intends to use community-created freeware liveries to create bundled payware packages. The collective expressed vehement disapproval of this, also adding in the announcement post that they received no correspondence from the site regarding this initiative. They continued by emphasizing their disagreement with free content from independent creators being repackaged as a paid product without those creators’ express consent and input.
They were clear on the fact that they hold this position regardless of a platform’s terms. Presumably, that part of the announcement may be in reference to Section 4.4 of Flightsim.to’s Terms of Service (ToS), which states: “You grant Flightsim.to the right to monetize your User Content on the Service, including by displaying advertisements on or within it. These Terms do not entitle you to any payments unless explicitly stated.” Flightsim.to’s ToS also states that an individual is automatically bound by its stipulations once they use the website.
The message continued with the group sharing that there has been at least one occasion where Flightsim.to staff has acted with a lack of transparency in the past. Combined with their prior experience with the site, this new development has left the team feeling very uneasy towards Flightsim.to, ultimately leading to this decision.
While HUES as a collective has taken this action, their individual contributors are still free to continue using Flightsim.to to distribute their personal work, the post says. These will not be supported through HUES, however.
The move stops short of a takedown, as all HUES content already on the site will remain, but these will not be supported or maintained. From now on, all of the group’s releases will be available for download, update, and support solely via their in-house app. Released in June 2026, the Hues Hub App was created to streamline the process of downloading and maintaining the addons comprising the group’s not-so-insignificant portfolio. Given this latest development, some may now see the Hues Hub app as a very timely release, in hindsight.
