Laminar Research Previews New Lighting Model for X-Plane 11

Laminar Research, a company of Austin Meyer, responsible for one of the widely used flight simulator platforms, X-Plane 11, has previewed a new lighting model of the simulator. The developer has shared a preview video through their YouTube channel.

In the video, we can see a direct comparison to the current lighting model. This will mean a complete overhaul of the visuals of the simulator. As mentioned in the video description, this is the very first preview of the lighting model and we can expect more information and previews very soon. The developer also mentioned that this is a window to the entirely new generation of X-Plane.

The video itself contains a detailed preview and how the new lighting will behave. It is visible especially on PBR, where it has a huge impact on visual. Some of the X-Plane users may be concerned about the performance impact, and the developer hasn’t stated anything about it yet. The information about the release date of this X-Plane 11 update hasn’t been stated as well, and will more likely be revealed with further previews.
