Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has received another big Sim Update, which is mostly focused on performance and visual stability of the simulator. The beta of this update has been quite short, but many things have been changed in the core of the game that many virtual pilots will surely appreciate.

The main thing is official support for Nvidia’s DLSS 4.5 technology, which further enhances the DLSS sampling, smoothing out transitions and sharp edges visible in the simulator. The frame generation is also improved, and no glitches should really happen with this new version. AMD’s counterpart, FSR 4, was being tested in the Sim Update 6 beta. However, due to some glitches with multi-display rendering, the FSR 4 technology has been reverted to FSR 3 in the official release, just as it was in Sim Update 5.1.

The texture level of detail (LOD) has been improved as well, mitigating the pop-up and blurry textures inside the cockpit, and ray-traced shadows should render better on longer distances.

The update is not solely focused on stability, performance and visual improvements. Some default planes have received well-deserved updates. The Aero Vodochody L39 received improved geometry and an interior collision model. The iniBuilds A330 should now consume a standard amount of fuel on the APU, instead of 4 tonnes per hour, and the bug with permanent TCAS live traffic is no longer present. Some other planes that have been improved include the Beechcraft Bonanza G36, Baron G58, the Airbus Helicopters H225 and H125, as well as the default Boeing aircraft like the Dreamliner and the 737 MAX.

Those who mostly focus on airliner flying will be glad to hear that you can now disable the walk-around mode on startup through the Accessibility menu in the simulator. There are also some changes to the VR, controls and peripheral compatibility and mapping.
