Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: New Information Regarding Add-ons Shared by Microsoft

During yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft gave us a short teaser trailer introducing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The announcement took the flight-sim community by storm and naturally a plethora of questions followed regarding the new platform.

Microsoft today took to the Microsoft Flight Simulator website answering various frequently asked questions and giving us more insightful information regarding the new platform.

The first question Microsoft responded to was whether Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone sequel or a paid update for existing users. MSFS2024 will be a standalone platform and will be the next-generation sequel to MSFS2020. Every aircraft and airport that are in MSFS2020, as well as virtually all Marketplace add-ons, will be supported in MSFS2024.

The second question Microsoft responded to was the kind of support existing MSFS2020 players can expect post-MSFS2024 launch. Microsoft says they will continue to provide support for MSFS2020 post the MSFS2024 launch and will also continue to deliver their roadmap for MSFS2020 which will have content ranging from Aircraft and Avionics Updates, sim updates, city and world updates, and the free Dune DLC.

The third question pertained to purchases made in the Marketplace and whether they will be transferrable. Microsoft states that other than a few rare exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in MSFS2020 today will continue to function in MSFS2024. Add-ons that were purchased from the in-sim Marketplace will not need to be re-purchased in MSFS2024.

Since Microsoft only responded to a handful of questions, still very little is known about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Regardless, Microsoft is very excited to share a lot more information over the coming months about the next generation of the Microsoft Flight Simulator Franchise. Any information, previews, screenshots, and/or announcement from the team regarding Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be promptly shared by us. Do read our coverage of the initial announcement.
