The National Championship Air Races, or NCAR, is joining Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in October. It combines the classic Reno Air Races and the newer Roswell Air Races, bringing multi-lap races and the addition of a new wear-and-tear system.
NCAR is a multi-day event at Reno Stead Airport, Nevada, involving six race classes and demonstrations from pilots. It was last held in 2023, but has since resumed in Roswell, New Mexico, last year, introducing the newer Roswell Air Races. It features multi-lap racing across a range of aircraft classes, at a length of about 3 to 8 miles per lap. It is held by the Reno Air Racing Association.
Teams at Microsoft Flight Simulator have worked closely with the Reno Air Racing Association (RARA), alongside several pilots, in order to develop authentic models of the world’s most famous racing aircraft. Five race classes will be included: the Unlimited Class (P-51 Mustang), T-6 Class (T-6 Texan), the Biplane Class (Aviat Pitts Special S1S), and the Jet Class (Aero Vodochody L-39). For the first time, it will also include the STOL class with a new 1 vs 1 drag-race event.
