NextGen Simulations has shared updates for their upcoming Saab 340 for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). Although a default version of the Saab 340, developed by Carenado, will be included in the Premium Deluxe Edition of MSFS 2024, the lead developer of NextGen Simulations will continue to deliver his own detailed version for both MSFS 2020 and 2024. NextGen Simulations is aware of the competition with Carenado but reinforces its commitment to offering an alternative and improved take on the S340, stating that healthy competition is needed for quality products.
Development Progress
The S340 is nearing its completion. It features refinements such as 8K textures, dynamic tail registration decals, and enhanced structural details for rivets, screws, and embossed tire decals. The virtual cockpit, cabin, and custom digital instruments are a work in progress and promise immersive functionality with FMS and GPS options. Supported navigation systems will include Working Title’s GNS, PMS50 GTN, TDS GTNXI and also default options like the Collins FMS and MSFS 2024’s UNS-1.

Saab 2000 in the Works
The development doesn’t stop at the S340. Work on the Saab 2000 (S2000) is progressing steadily, with the exterior model nearing completion. This larger, more powerful variant will follow the S340’s development path, thus promising similar attention to detail and compatibility for both MSFS simulators.

Looking Ahead
The S340 is projected to release in late Q1 or mid-Q2 2025. Shipped liveries will cover a wide spectrum of historical and current operators, including Flybe, Loganair, Rex Airlines, and Crossair. While storage limitations may affect the number of included liveries, additional packs will be offered for download post-release.
Although compatibility with MSFS 2024 is one of the major priorities, NextGen will initially release the Saabs as MSFS 2020-native products. Future updates will adapt them to MSFS 2024’s enhanced SDK features. A small upgrade fee for 2020 users may apply to access the full 2024 counterparts. Stay tuned for more updates as development progresses!
