The recently announced Gold Coast Airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator was just released, as announced via the Orbx forums. Developed by Matteo Veneziani, this release welcomes virtual pilots to the popular Australian holiday destination. We were informed about the release via Orbx’s social media.

Gold Coast Airport (YBCG) is an international airport just south of Brisbane, near the Gold Coast city. It originally opened in 1936 as Coolangatta Airport and was renamed in 1989. First, the airport consisted of three grass airstrips and now there is a single runway, that cuts through two Australian territories and through two time zones during Daylight Saving Time (DST). However, the airport operates in Queensland time (UTC+10). This makes it an interesting landmark for many aviation enthusiasts.

Speaking of routes from this airport, virtual pilots can travel here from Kuala Lumpur, major Australian cities, Christchurch, Queenstown and smaller islands in the Pacific. The two biggest operators at the airport remain Bonza and Jetstar, both offering over ten destinations across the region.
