Orbx has released the latest entry in its Papua New Guinea airstrip series, with indie developer Ken Hall delivering Pack 5 exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This new pack makes full use of the updated MSFS 2024 SDK, enabling richer scenery detail and more immersive experiences than before.

Seven Challenging Highland Airstrips

Pack 5 brings simmers seven more hand-crafted airstrips scattered across the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea—one of the most visually spectacular and challenging regions in the simulator. The airstrips included are: Dusin (AYDS), Yomneri (AYJE), Kanainj (AYKJ), Bank (AYBJ), Kombaku (AYOU), Ambaluwa (AYMI), and Bundi (AYDI). Each airstrip sits atop a high plateau or mountain ridge, with elevations ranging from nearly 4,000 to over 6,500 feet. Runways are short and rugged, making these destinations ideal for bush pilots seeking an authentic challenge.

Unique Terminals and Local Culture

Each of the seven locations features a uniquely modelled terminal, complete with signage displaying the airstrip name and elevation. Local noticeboards provide maps of the surrounding area, and buildings are decorated with Papua New Guinea–inspired artwork—adding regional flair and atmosphere. Hall notes that the new MSFS 2024 SDK inspired the use of fresh modelling techniques and artistic touches that showcase both PNG’s landscape and culture.
