At Pimax’s latest Pimax Sync keynote, Pimax unveiled a brand-new solution for flight sim enthusiasts and beyond: the Pimax Crystal Super, the world’s first retina-level VR headset. A retina-level screen refers to a resolution so high that all the individual pixels cannot be detected by the human eye. The new device makes a huge leap forward in immersion with a resolution of 57 pixels per degree (PPD). Pimax states that this state-of-the-art hardware and various additions such as the Pimax Prime membership and 60G Airlink wireless technology show Pimax’s dedication to providing the best VR experiences for the simulation and gaming communities.
Pimax Crystal Super: Setting New Standards Not Just For Flight Simulation
Flight simulation enthusiasts will benefit from the immersiveness and performance the Crystal Super aims to deliver through the following features:
- QLED Panels: A resolution of 3840 x 3840 per eye, leading to the retina-level branding.
- Wide FOV: A 120° horizontal field of view with the default optical engine, perfect for broad cockpit views.
- Dynamic Foveated Rendering: The Pimax Crystal Super maximizes performance by focusing graphical power just where it’s needed most, enabling smooth gameplay even on mid-range systems.
- Local Dimming 2.0: Enhances contrast with 1,000 dimming zones per eye for near-micro-OLED black levels.-
- Swappable Optical Engines: Post-launch additional swappable optical engines will be released (micro-OLED or 50 PPD QLED 135° PPD option).

Optimized for Long-Haul Sessions
Even though the internal hardware has become more advanced, the Pimax Crystal Super is 30% smaller than its predecessor and offers ergonomic improvements. This allows for even longer flights completely immersed in Virtual Reality.

60G Airlink: Wireless Freedom
Pimax simultaneously announced the 60G Airlink system with the promise to deliver uncompressed wireless connectivity with no compromises on clarity or latency. According to the released specifications of this device, it supports a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz, or even 120 Hz in lab mode, which is much more than the average flight simmer needs. Built-in eye-tracking and compatibility with Pimax Play are also supported. Public demos are planned for CES 2025, showcasing its seamless integration with motion-intensive VR applications like Flight Simulators.
Pre-orders are now live on the Pimax website, with hands-on demos available at CES 2025, taking place in Las Vegas in January. Until then, check out our review of the original Pimax Crystal headset, and stay tuned for our upcoming review of the Pimax Crystal Light!
