Shortly after the launch of the PMDG 777 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the developer started to push multiple updates for this add-on. Robert Randazzo from PMDG shared all the changes for the updates via their forum. Both forum posts come with some information regarding the future of the add-on. The first patch was launched on the 29th of June followed by a second that dropped on the 3rd of July. According to the post, more updates will be available in the next few days. These changes will generally focus on issues that disrupt the user’s experience when flying this aircraft.
1st Update for the PMDG 777
The post regarding this first update starts with the reasons why the aircraft is not yet available for Xbox or the MSFS marketplace. PMDG wants to watch the product closely in this initial stage to solve quickly possible issues with the aircraft. This way, fixes can be shipped more quickly via the PMDG Operations Center. Their goal is to stabilize the product before releasing it in the marketplace.
One big issue that PMDG is currently working on the 777 is a problem regarding the cockpit ceasing to respond to the user. This problem is related to Sim Update 15 from MSFS. They are working with Asobo to fix this issue, which also affects the PMDG 737. Users who have experienced this issue can complete a survey by the PMDG tech support team. This is done to collect data to combat this issue better.
The patch to the aircraft itself contains multiple fixes to the FMS, virtual cockpit, and the external model. Most issues resolved are bug fixes that cause issues like disappearing items or freezes. GSX profile and Hoppie ACARS issues were resolved in this update. PMDG ensures that most of the issues posted on the forums are going to be analyzed and then fixed in the future by the development team.
2nd Update
The second update is focused on improving the stability and performance of the aircraft. This update doesn’t include many issue fixes regarding the operation of the aircraft like the previous update. The fixes in performance are related to data provided by the community. This determines which areas of the 777 consume more performance. With this update, you can now have an increased performance and smoothness in those areas of the aircraft.
An update regarding the cabin freeze issue was also provided in this post. The development team has found two issues that probably relate to this problem. One probable cause is related to how the information of this add-on’s code is handled after the release of SU15. Another possible cause is related to a specific Resolution Advisory (RA) event by the TCAS.
PMDG is already working on the next update which will probably be shipped this weekend. They confirm that right now the 777 is stable with some issues still being fixed. To update your PMDG 777 aircraft, you can do it via the PMDG Operation Center and go to the update menu. You can read more about the PMDG 777 for MSFS in our previous article.
