The Microsoft Flight Simulator team, in collaboration with Asobo, has recently been implementing significant changes to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Following the recent release of Sim Update 2, several new features and general bug fixes have been introduced and are now ready to be tested by the community.

Summary of Changes

A highly anticipated feature of being able to locally store streamed assets, such as aircraft, airports and world scenery, has been implemented and is now being tested for the first time. Previously, all default in-game assets were streamed, which resulted in issues for many community members, particularly concerning low-resolution models and textures. The update brings the ability to download the assets and store them on your hard drive, which alleviates issues of slower bandwidth causing blurry visuals.

On the physics side, the update brings changes to the inertia calculation system, making flight dynamics more physically correct, especially for aerobatic or small General Aviation (GA) aircraft. Models like the Cessna 172 and Extra 330LT have already been updated to take advantage of these new physics systems.

In-game ATC has also received some love. The beta handles newly added support for Arrival Routes (STARs) and proper descent handling for Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) abiding flights. The text-to-speech pronunciation of Asiana and Lauda airlines has also been corrected. Adjustments were also made to the radio frequency distortion effect.
