SimPixel has released Weeze Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. SimPixel has previously released Bari Airport in Italy for MSFS. Weeze Airport is their next scenery, bringing the home to low-cost operations in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
About Weeze Airport
Weeze Airport is situated just 2 miles southwest of the municipality of Weeze. It has one runway with a length of 8,005ft and serves over 1 million passengers every year. Ryanair and Sky Express fly scheduled and seasonal flights at Weeze. The airport has one terminal, with the apron to the west. Featuring nine aircraft stands, the airport can accommodate aircraft like the 737-800.

In its early days, Weeze Airport used to be an RAF base. The airport uses the facilities of the former military base and began civilian operations back in 2003. It has been known under several names in its history of civilian operations. Originally, the operators wanted to name it after the city of Düsseldorf. However, the airport was too far from the city and already had two closer international airports.
Since 2010, the airport began experiencing a steady decline, despite peaking at nearly 3 million passengers. This was due to competition from nearby airports. In 2014, Ryanair cancelled 18 routes for the summer season. Five years later, the airport faced financial difficulties due to a fall in passengers by over 30%. The airport has seen a minor increase in numbers again since 2023.
SimPixel’s Weeze Airport
SimPixel has modelled every structure, from the terminals to the hangers. All structures are modelled to the highest level of accuracy, reflecting the real-world airport. The terminal interior has also been modelled and textured. These buildings offer a true-to-life experience, with detail replicated both inside and outside the terminal.
Featuring high-resolution PBR materials, every texture and model includes realistic shadows, reflections and weathering effects. These textures have been made to enhance the user’s experience and represent the real airport in the most accurate way possible. Dynamic night lighting has also been included with accurate ambient, runway and taxiway lighting.

To add a more immersive experience to the airport, static aircraft and ground vehicles can also be found around the airport. Accurately placed aircraft and ground equipment can be seen all over the apron and around the airfield. SimPixel have also designed and built this add-on to run smoothly on a range of systems without a visual comprise.
