SimWorks Studios has released their long-awaited GA8 Airvan for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 via the in-sim Marketplace. The release includes both cargo and passenger variants of the Australian utility aircraft, complete with a cargo pod option and several avionics options through a custom tablet. This marks the first GA8 Airvan available for Microsoft Flight Simulator, filling the gap between the small propeller planes and the Cessna 208 Caravan. The MSFS 2024 version will be released as a free upgrade at a later stage.

Gippsland GA8 Airvan
The Gippsland GA8 Airvan first flew in March 1995 and entered service in December 2000, establishing itself as a utility aircraft. Powered by a Lycoming IO-540-K1A5 engine producing 300 horsepower, the aircraft reaches a cruise speed of 120 knots with a range of 840 nautical miles and a service ceiling of 20,000 feet. The Airvan accommodates up to seven passengers alongside the pilot. Around 260 units have been produced, serving operators across Australia, Africa, and other regions requiring robust bush flying capabilities.
Model Features
SimWorks Studios has included sounds recorded directly from the actual aircraft and developed the flight model to match the real Airvan’s handling characteristics. The tablet inside the cockpit allows pilots to manage payload distribution and hot-swap between multiple avionics configurations, including the GTN750Xi, GTN750, and GNS530/430 units. Visual wear in the form of dirt and mud accumulate and persist throughout flights, adding to the authenticity of the addon.

SimWorks Studios has also released its newly developed SystemsPulse technology, which manages electrical logic, engine management, and failure modelling. According to the announcement both random and manually activated failures are possible during operations. With this extensive technology SimWorks Studios claims a unique experience with consequences responding to pilot actions and flying style.
The GA8 Airvan addon can be purchased through the official MSFS Marketplace, with the SystemsPulse tech available as a separate download. The base aircraft is available for $29.99, the optional SystemsPulse is priced at $17.49. Both addons will also be available via the SimWorks Studios website at a yet undetermined date.
