Sky Simulations Releases DC-9 for MSFS

The developer Sky Simulations has released their rendition of McDonnell Douglas DC-9 for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The developer Sky Simulations has released their rendition of McDonnell Douglas DC-9 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, bringing the old-school narrow-body to life for everyone who enjoys a bit of nostalgia.

About the DC-9

The DC-9 is a narrow-body airliner that had its maiden flight as far back as 1965, and the first operator of this aircraft was Delta Airlines. In total, there were almost a thousand of these planes manufactured before McDonnell Douglas was acquired by Boeing, which modernised the airframe and created the Boeing 717, which is still being used to this day.

The DC-9 had five different variants, mostly powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines. These variants shared similarities but differed in length and passenger capacity. The plane was being manufactured until 1982.

About Sky Simulations’ Rendition

Sky Simulations promises a detailed simulation of the DC-9 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. There are two variants available, the DC-9-10 and DC-9-30, available in passenger and freighter variants.

The detailed models are covered in bespoke PBR textures, with native decals and icing effects. Custom wingflex is also incorporated, as well as detailed animations of stabilizers, doors, ailerons and so on.

The virtual cockpit is fully operational and includes every knob, switch or button that a virtual pilot needs to use. There are also movable sunscreens and a ton of detailed animations. Just as with the exterior, the interior is thoroughly modelled and covered in detailed textures.

The flight dynamics of this aircraft are tested by real airline pilots, based on manuals and real-world comparisons.

System simulation includes fully operational APU, realistic fuel behaviour, detailed electrical and hydraulic systems, as well as air conditioning and pressurisation.

The autopilot is also custom, with multiple modes, pitch, vertical speed, IAS and MACH holds. The plane also includes ILS and G/S simulation.

Instead of the EFB, Sky Simulations incorporated a different kind of approach, and created “paperwork”. It is basically an EFB on paper and consists of flight planning, weight and balance, door control and aircraft settings.

Lastly, Sky Simulations includes 17 different worldwide liveries for the aircraft.

You can purchase the DC-9 through the Just Flight website for €59.99.
