Skybound Studios’ latest release brings Santarém Airport to X-Plane 12. The development of this scenery was a collaboration between Skybound Studios & Fernando Soares. The two have worked together to create a detailed rendition of this Amazonian airport.
About Santarém Airport.
First opened in 1977, Santarém Airport (SBSN|STM) is located in the Brazilian state of Pará. Surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and the vast winding waterways of the Amazon Basin, the airport features a single runway with a single passenger terminal, capable of handling aircraft as large as the Airbus A321. Santarém Airport averages 1,200 passengers transiting through daily.

About Skybound Studios Santarém
As mentioned earlier in this article, Skybound Studios & Fernando Soares co-developed Santarém, with Fernando’s 3D buildings and airport objects forming the foundation of the scenery and Skybound Studios handling the work to bring the project to X-Plane 12, as well as building the surrounding airport environment. Alongside the detailed 3D models, the scenery uses PBR materials and weathering to cover all buildings, hangars, and apron areas with surface details and dirt modelled to respond to X-Plane 12’s lighting and weather systems.
For nighttime operations, custom airport and runway lighting has been included and carefully balanced to avoid excessive glare and light bleed. They have created a fully custom terrain mesh with accurate elevation, smooth runway slopes, and carefully shaped transitions around the airport.

The developers have paid special attention to the surrounding areas; thousands of native 3D trees have been hand-placed throughout, with dense regional vegetation to create a distinctly tropical environment. High-resolution orthophotos cover the area, with colour and tone adjusted to blend in with the surrounding Amazonian landscape.
