SoFly, known for its weather mods and airport sceneries, has released Hannover Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. SoFly aims to deliver an immersive rendition of Germany’s eighth-largest airport, together with interactive terminals, seasonal weather effects, moving ground transport and full interior modelling, including ambient audio throughout the terminal.
About Hannover Airport
Hannover Airport (EDDV) serves the city of Hannover and the southern region of Lower Saxony, including major industrial areas such as Wolfsburg, home of Volkswagen and its vast manufacturing plant. For that reason, Hannover Airport is considered a major regional hub, handling 5.22 million passengers and 61,871 aircraft movements in 2024 (Frankfurt Airport for comparison: 61.6 million passengers, 440,853 aircraft movements). The three passenger terminals A, B and C are all within walking distance of each other. A fourth terminal (Terminal D) is occasionally used for VIP and business aviation.

The airport operates two parallel concrete runways (27R/09L with 3,800 m and 27L/09R with 2,340 m) and a 550 m General Aviation strip (27C/09C). Of note is the unusual location of the GA strip, just south of the 27R/09L runway, situated between two taxiways. This layout leads to a significantly higher number of runway incursions, according to DFS German Air Traffic Control.
In addition to the domestic connections to Frankfurt and Munich, popular holiday destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Antalya, Vienna, and Amsterdam are also served from EDDV by airlines such as Lufthansa, KLM, TUI fly, and SunExpress.

SoFly’s Hannover Airport
Using its Interactive Scenery Technology, SoFly brings the terminal to life with automatically opening doors when approached with the camera, and also includes animated elevators and escalators. The environment adapts to changing conditions, with realistic snow piles and snow‑plough operations during winter. Ground transport systems, including metro trains (S-Bahn) and airport buses, run realistic schedules and open their doors for virtual passengers. This adds another layer of realism to the airport. The inside of the terminal features fully modelled check‑in halls, lounges, security checkpoints, and even restrooms. Animated staff and passengers also enhance the immersion.

The audio is equally immersive according to SoFly, with ATC chatter, terminal announcements, restaurant noise, and even restroom sounds. Additionally, high‑resolution textures across terminals, signage, apron markings, and surrounding infrastructure deliver high-quality visuals. Performance optimisation ensures smooth performance across a wide range of hardware. A fully integrated GSX profile also enables custom ground handling, while the optional Visual Docking Guidance System by Aerosoft (via Aerosoft One) adds to the realism.
Community Response
Comments on YouTube and Facebook reflect a mixed response to the add-on. While some users are praising its high-quality exterior and performance, others have been lamenting the flat scenery on the periphery. Details such as the wrong paint colour of the buses, which are red instead of green-silver, or the wrong railway operator—the current operator is Transdev instead of Deutsche Bahn—point to a lack of attention to detail.

Users have also noticed the inaccurate interior layout of the terminals. SoFly responded by pointing out that no promises on accuracy were made. However, SoFly recognises the importance of complete accuracy and will consider this feedback for future updates.
SoFly has decided to add the scenery to its Airport Product Transfer Programme, giving owners of JustSim’s EDDV Hannover Airport a 15% discount when purchasing this scenery via the SoFly Store. SoFly’s Hannover Airport scenery is now available directly from the SoFly Store for €21,99 (excluding tax).
