The Workshop #4 – EFB, Installer, MSFS2Blender, Survey

Welcome to the fourth installment of The Workshop – a series dedicated to the latest news and updates regarding FlyByWire’s work on the A32NX and upcoming A380. The first, second, and third episodes can be read here. The Workshop is written directly by the FlyByWire team within the FSNews and FlyByWire partnership.

Competition Result

Our Winter/Christmas screenshot competition was a great success with over 150 submissions! We narrowed down the finalists on our Discord and opened voting to our community for the best winter-themed image. Congratulations to LordP#1142, who won first place and a copy of TFDi’s PacX:

Feature of the week

This week, we have introduced more improvements to our A32NX project, including but not limited to:

  • Improved engine start and spool-up sounds
  • Added new icing memos to the flight warning computer
  • Basic TCAS functionality – currently limited to icons on the PFD that display live traffic. TA and RA aural alerts will come soon.

Work In Progress

Here’s a short list of features currently being worked on, which we hope to merge in soon:

  • Full SimBrief integration, including load and fuel handling
  • Ground speed mini implementation in the FMGC
  • Further light model and flap improvements
  • Further internal and external lighting Improvements

EFB

We have successfully imported the EFB Tablet in-sim! We are now working on polishing the UI and writing code to handle performance calculations, METAR requests, cabin announcements, sound settings, and much more!

New Installer

Our team is also working on a new installer that will enable more options for our future variants, aircraft, and much more!

MSFS2Blender

One of our developers, Pepperoni, is making great progress on our custom Blender importer/exporter, now with full support for animations! 

Community Survey

Not to forget, we are currently running a community survey together with Salty Simulations and sim4flight. Our goal with the survey is to gain further knowledge to precisely know what the community wants so we can adapt our current availability to suit everyone even further. The survey can be found here, on Google Forms.
