The Workshop #5 – A32NX v0.5.0, Autopilot, Community Event

Welcome to the fifth instalment of The Workshop – a series dedicated to the latest news and updates regarding FlyByWire’s work on the A32NX and upcoming A380. The first, second, third, and fourth episode can be read here. The Workshop is written directly by the FlyByWire team within the FSNews and FlyByWire partnership.

New Stable Release!

We have just released version 0.5.0 of our A32NX! We added multiple new features, such as flight model improvements, ATSU and Simbrief implementation, new lighting and sounds, and brand new 4K textures! To see the full changelog, please click on the following (GitHub).

Features of the week

This week, we have introduced different features to our A32NX project in our development version, including but not limited to:

  • SimBrief ATSU integration*
  • Added ground speed mini
  • Overhauled cockpit button and switch sounds
  • Ability to switch between metric and imperial units*
  • Ability to enable new NEO passenger signs (“NO PORTABLE DEVICES”)
  • Soft Go-Around function
  • Descent rate flight model improvements*

* is implemented also in the stable version.

  • VNAV and Top of Climb/Top of Descent
  • Custom flight plan manager
  • New APU interior and exterior sounds
  • Visual improvements to all MCDU pages
  • TRK/FPA mode and flight path vector
  • Rewrite of ECAM code for performance and modularity

Autopilot progress

Work on our custom autopilot has started. Our developer Andreas has been hard at work on the new system, which can now perform basic maneuvers on its own. Please keep in mind that this work will take some time to be available in the development branch.
