UK2000 Releases London City Airport for MSFS

Microsoft Flight Simulator airport developer UK2000 released his rendition of the London City Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator a few days after his previous announcement.

Following the announcement post from April 30th, UK2000 has released his version of the famous London City Airport with an extremely high level of detail. London City Airport (EGLC), famous for its aggressive 5.5-degree glide slope and therefore its restrictive aircraft certification requirements, is a tempting and popular location for sim pilots. Following recent updates to the airport this release attempts to model the most up-to-date version of London City Airport.

The add-on focuses on features that the player would notice in their everyday use of the airport, as well as some niche attention-to-details that perhaps would go unnoticed without a mention. One such detail is the virtual ATC tower, instead of the usual on-site air traffic controllers, the tower is replaced with cameras and the feed is sent to ATC offices several miles away. More grounded and obvious features include the PBR textures throughout, as well as the faithful recreations of buildings and fixtures found around the airport, even including an animated metro line! The add-on is also compatible with Orbx’s London Scenery available for MSFS.

This add-on releases just as Orbx announced the massive V2 update to their version of London City Airport. These two add-ons pitted against one another will make an interesting decision for the buyer, bearing in mind that those who already own the Orbx version will receive the V2 update for only €4,53 euro.

London City Airport, located in the heart of London City, began operations in 1987 and has quickly grown to an internationally operating airport popular for both airlines and passengers. Throughout its lifetime it has seen many popular use cases, notably the Bombardier Dash-7 and the BAe146. Recently popular aircraft operating through London City Airport are primarily the Embraer regional jet series, 170 through 195. EGLC is operated mainly by British Airways CityFlyer and their fleet of regional airlines traveling to popular destinations such as Frankfurt and Amsterdam Schipol. Serving nearly 5 million passengers a year and 45 destinations, EGLC is an attractive airport for simmers interested in a challenging and picturesque location.
