VATSIM Terrain-Based Radio Upgrade Release Schedule

VATSIM has announced an upcoming upgrade to its Audio For VATSIM radio algorithm, scheduled to go live on 23 June at 1500Z.

VATSIM has announced an upcoming upgrade to its Audio For VATSIM radio algorithm, scheduled to go live on 23 June at 1500Z. The update introduces a new radio algorithm designed to incorporate real-world radio propagation calculations and terrain-based simulations into the network’s voice environment.

Downtime Schedule

To facilitate the transition, the Audio for VATSIM infrastructure will be taken offline for one hour prior to launch. Live status during the upgrade, along with a detailed breakdown of affected systems, can be monitored at https://network-status.vatsim.net/.

  • Offline Window: 23 June at 1400Z
  • Go-Live Window: 23 June 1500Z

Because the upgrade is entirely server-side, no client updates are required for pilots or controllers. Existing connection software such as: vPilot, xPilot, Euroscope, TrackAudio and CRC will continue to function normally and will automatically utilise the new terrain and propagation features once the deployment is complete. Further details can be found in the official blog post, and the VATSIM Community Discord.
