Verticalsim have released their latest add-on, Southwest Florida International Airport (KRSW), for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. This release adds to their already interesting line-up of American airports for MSFS.
About Southwest Florida Airport
Southwest Florida Airport is a county-owned airport in Lee County. It serves the Southwest Florida region and surrounding metropolitan areas. It is the second-busiest single runway airport in the US and served 11 million passengers in 2024. It opened in 1983 after three years of construction. It serves many airlines such as Delta, Southwest, and JetBlue.
In 2013, a new $16 million Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting facility opened. A new expansion was planned to relocate the air traffic control tower, expand the apron and improve the taxiway system. However, the tower was delayed from 2019 until 2022. A parallel runway was also delayed indefinitely, and the project is estimated to cost $454 million.
Verticalsim’s Southwest Florida Airport
Verticalsim have recreated Southwest Florida Airport using an accurate and up-to-date 2025 airport layout. The terminal interior has been modelled but with simplicity to ensure maximum performance for a range of systems. The surrounding hangers have also been fully modelled with accuracy.
Using custom high-grade aerial imagery, the developers have supported the accurate 2025 airport layout with high-quality aerial imagery to provide the best experience. They have also modelled and included custom taxiway signage, obstruction lights, centreline lights and more.
The surrounding areas, like Skypark, have also been modelled for the highest realism. Verticalsim have provided simmers with an official GSX profile made by US Profiles.
