Verticalsim took to their Discord server earlier this week to announce the release of their rendition of St. Pete/Clearwater Airport (KPIE) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The airport had been teased by the team last month and a release date of 5th May 2024 was confirmed by the team just one day prior on 4th May.
About St. Pete/Clearwater Airport
St. Pete/Clearwater Airport (KPIE) is an international public/military airport in Pinellas County, Florida, USA, serving the Tampa Bay area. It is located on the northeast municipal boundary of Pinellas Park, nine miles north of downtown St. Petersburg. It is categorized as a small-hub commercial service facility by the FAA. Although scheduled airline traffic in the Tampa Bay area mostly uses Tampa International Airport, St. Peter/Clearwater remains essential for low-cost carriers. Since the airport is less busy than Tampa, it is frequently used by private planes and executive jets.
Key features of the MSFS product
Verticasim’s St. Pete/Clearwater International features a custom-modeled terminal with a simple interior to attain the best possible performance. It also features a fully modeled and accurate USCG area and an FBO. Moreover, the level of detail has also been optimized by the dev team to further enhance performance which allows simmers to get even better performance.
Further features include custom high-grade aerial imagery, an up-to-date airport layout, custom static aircraft models for the Coast Guard’s C130s and Jayhawks, custom taxiway signage, high-resolution textures of airport buildings with PBR, and a custom model of the Bayside Bridge. An official GSX Pro profile developed by US Profiles has also been included as part of the game files.
