X-Plane Releases Caribbean Update

Laminar Research recently took to their Facebook page to announce the release of version 12.1.2, also known as the Caribbean update. The update is mostly art-based but also brings some functionality fixes and additions.

12.1.2 Art-Based Package

In this latest release, Laminar Research has made several improvements to X-Plane 12 to represent the Caribbean region better. They have updated the global water textures to make the water look more realistic, made custom enhancements to the airports TNCS, TFFJ, and TNCM, and added new objects to the scenery gateway. Additionally, custom dynamic civilian vessels have been added and will replace the old military ships in most cases.

In the previews, we can see new custom textures and models for different ground vehicles, including an electric passenger bus and a new ground power unit. Moreover, we can see a shark in the water near a small fishing boat, and the water colours change with different depths. The wave effects produced by ships have also been updated.

The selection of ships includes a wide range of vessel types, from large container ships displaying real company names on their containers to small sailing boats, and large oil tankers. Each ship model is unique, featuring various liveries, high-quality textures, real names and logos, and even some funny jokes incorporated into their designs.

Functionality Improvements

With update 12.1.2, X-Plane natively supports dual jetways. Scenery developers are required to update their sceneries in the World Editor (WED) in order to make use of this. Laminar Research also fixed a bunch of smaller bugs, you can see the full changelog below.
