The lead developer of X-Works, known online as Bru_Aviationspotter and RWY_Design on the X-Plane.org forum recently announced the end to the X-Works A380 project announced in April 2024. The announcement came through the team’s Discord server, where the developer listed time constraints and professional commitments as the main reasons behind the decision.
The statement reads:
I hereby announce the end of our A380 project. There are multiple factors that played a role in this decision, the biggest being the lack of time to work on it as I was the only developer for the majority of the project. Another factor being that now I’m an aircraft mechanic my time is limited compared to 1 or 2 years ago which would make the development a lot longer than usual.
The announcement was met with a mix of disappointment, but mostly understanding from the community, many of whom had followed the A380’s development in the team’s discord closely since its reveal.
While the A380 will not be completed, Bru_Aviationspotter assured that updates to other X-Works aircraft like the A330-200, A340, and MRTT mods are still planned for the future, though without a specific release timeline at the moment.
Despite the end of the A380 project, X-Works continue to offer several freeware aircraft for the X-Plane platform. The development of these projects is still ongoing, with future updates planned as time allows.
