Asobo Releasing Incompatible Add-ons in MSFS 2024

Correction 24.11.2024 – 1657z: It has come to our attention that it is Microsoft who is releasing incompatible add-ons in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, not Asobo. Similarly, to clarify, Microsoft has not been porting add-ons to MSFS 2024 but has rather made their MSFS 2020 counterparts available in MSFS 2024 without consent from their creators.

Since the release of MSFS 2024, Asobo has been converting compatible add-ons from MSFS 2020 to 2024. However, third-party developers, like PMDG and P42, have had their add-ons released for MSFS 2024 despite them being incompatible. This has caused several issues, with both developers recommending users not to use the add-ons that are incompatible.

Asobo Releasing Add-ons from Parallel 42 and PMDG

Asobo has been porting some of Parallel 42’s add-ons to MSFS 2024, which has been causing issues for those who are trying to use them in the new simulator. P42 has warned that although some of their products are appearing, they are not compatible and therefore not ready for use.

To address this issue and clarify for customers, P42 has created a dashboard which will display the status of each add-on and their compatibility. Each one is either marked as MSFS 2024 Native or MSFS 2024 Compatible. Native products have been updated to leverage 2024’s new features.

A final note from P42 was regarding future updates for their MSFS 2020 products to the new simulator. P42 clarified that customers can expect free updates for all their products for at least six months following November 19th, 2024.

PMDG has also confirmed that the marketplace version of the 737 has also been released for MSFS 2024 without any consultation with PMDG. MSFS 2024 had originally stated that they would need confirmation from the developers themselves before releasing anything in 2024. However, it’s unknown why some add-ons are being released by Asobo currently.
