Australian scenery developer AUscene is putting the final touches on Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport (YBWW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. A recent update confirmed that development is nearly complete, with only minor tasks such as fencing, signage, and lighting remaining. The scenery was announced and previewed via AUscene’s official Facebook and Instagram pages.
Queen of the sky in Queensland
Located about 70 nm west of Brisbane, Toowoomba Wellcamp is Australia’s first major public airport developed with private funding. Opened in 2014, it boasts a 2,870-meter runway—long enough for Boeing 747 operations—and has hosted widebody freighters in the past. It also houses the Qantas Group Pilot Academy, contributing to its strategic relevance in regional aviation. While regional in scope, it has ranked as one of Australia’s busiest non-metro airports, with services from carriers like QantasLink and Rex.
The airport is promoted as Australia’s newest destination airport and the easiest gateway to Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region. With direct services to Sydney, Brisbane, and regional Queensland, and flights operated by Qantas and Regional Express, Wellcamp provides convenient access and fast regional connections.

Annouced Features
AUscene’s YBWW scenery will introduce several key features and custom assets that aim to elevate the sim experience at this regional Australian hub. Among them will be a complete high-resolution aerial imagery replacement, aiming to resolve a known issue where the default MSFS version splits the airport across two low-quality satellite tiles. The developer will also take extra care to hand-place all airside lighting and signage, and will ensure improved realism during both day and night operations. The apron area will feature accurately modeled fuel pumps and service equipment, adding operational depth to ground procedures. Additionally, the airport layout—including taxiways, aprons, and the terminal itself—will be faithfully recreated based on real-world references to reflect the current configuration of YBWW.

Crafting the Spirit of Regional Australia
AUscene has established itself within the MSFS community by focusing on detailed renditions of regional Australian airports—many of which are overlooked in default scenery. Their portfolio demonstrates a consistent emphasis on layout accuracy, integration with local geography, and faithful ground detailing. This approach has made them a go-to developer for simmers interested in enhancing regional Australian coverage with reliable, scenery-specific improvements.
Previous releases include Hamilton Island (YBHM), praised for its seamless integration of the marina and tropical landscape; Adelaide International (YPAD), a complex and busy hub crafted with realism and attention to operational detail; and Whitsunday Coast (YBPN), which brought life and accuracy to another underrepresented corner of Australia. Currently, alongside their work on Toowoomba Wellcamp, AUscene is also developing Hervey Bay Airport (YHBA), further reinforcing their commitment to highlighting the diversity and charm of regional Australia.
Toowoomba marks AUscene’s first rendition of YBWW and will be the first commercial and high-fidelity payware version of the airport in any flight simulator. It continues their trend of accurately representing both prominent and lesser-known airports across the country.

Release Outlook
No firm release date or pricing has been shared, but the developer has stated that final polishing is underway and that release is “not far off.” Community testers have already been selected, so the release is expected soon.
