BeyondATC has released a comprehensive development update outlining the improvements of its air traffic control (ATC) addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 and providing an outlook on coming features.
The update provides details on features such as GSX integration, CPDLC functionality, and air traffic systems overhaul. BeyondATC introduces a realistic ATC environment for MSFS, providing users with AI-powered communications and comprehensive flight management capabilities.
GSX Integration and Data Link Communications
The BeyondATC team announced GSX integration for the Early Access version, after a community poll named it the most sought-after feature. The GSX integration will give sim pilots separate handling options for arrival and departure, providing more flexibility and control.
In addition to GSX integration, the developer announced the introduction of Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), a text-based communications system between the pilot and air traffic control. This feature will be rolled out in phases, with the first phase featuring Pre Departure Clearance (PDC) Handling to be introduced to the experimental branch by the end of the month.
Future updates are set to introduce ATC-initiated instructions for altitude changes, directions and frequency changes, and pilot requests via CPDLC.

Operational Improvements
BeyondATC has improved the ATC pronunciation of waypoints and procedures, aligning it with the current AIRAC data, which should provide a more authentic experience every cycle. For ground operations, the system now includes advanced runway assignment logic across over 200 major airports, incorporating wind conditions, time constraints, and aircraft types.
The developers highlighted the significant amount of effort that went into this feature, which operates seamlessly in the background. The traffic overhaul was optimised for smoother performance and reduced stutters, while providing real-world routing based on real-life flight plans.
Technical Improvements and Outlook
The development team is also working on several technical improvements to enhance the overall experience. Historical weather support is being developed using historical METAR data to complement the 24-hour weather replay functionality of MSFS 2024. Additionally, request cancellation improvements will eliminate operational loops that previously created ATC dead ends.
With the addon still in its Early Access phase, the development team is mainly focusing on improving the stability of its current system. However, the developer has already announced further features it seeks to integrate into BeyondATC, with the next big milestone being VFR implementation. Additionally, the other features on the community poll, such as seamless turnaround, diversion to SimBrief alternate and queued button replies remain planned for future implementation.
