The developer of the popular AI air traffic control service, BeyondATC, posted a new announcement on their Discord Server. They showcased a new feature of their service in this post. Announced last month, CPDLC integration is arriving at BeyondATC. This new feature is currently available in a limited form in their experimental version of their service.

The announcement made by the developers gave us a first look at CPDLC in BeyondATC. Currently, version 1 of CPDLC is available. It allows users to obtain Pre-Departure Clearances (PDC) via CPDLC at every airport with BeyondATC. However, the developer pointed out that this PDC doesn’t accurately represent DCL, which is used in the United States.

Being in the experimental version, the developer is actively working on this new feature. The CPDLC integration will arrive at BeyondATC in three versions. The current version will only give departure clearances. Version 2 will enable users to change CPDLC stations and send realistic messages from ATC. Version 3 will focus on ATC requests like altitude changes.

CDPLC integration into BeyondATC has been proven difficult using existing connection methods to send messages to the aircraft. The developer reached out to aircraft developers to add a unique connection that can handle CPDLC with BeyondATC. Fenix Simulations has made its add-ons compatible with CPDLC of BeyondATC. The developers of BeyondATC have also reached out to iniBuilds to implement this on their A350.

The developers will continue to work on this feature and release it in their main build. There is currently a dedicated text channel on their Discord to report any issues with CPDLC in the experimental branch of their service. We can expect more information from the developers about this feature once its development progresses and more aircraft are compatible with CPDLC.
