FlightFactor Previews Rolls-Royce Engines for 777v2 for XP

FlightFactor’s development of the 777v2 Ultimate for X-Plane continues to progress nicely, according to a new update from the developer. In a new preview shared Monday via social media, FlightFactor showcased the upcoming Rolls-Royce (RR) engines, highlighting their attention to detail with an impressive up-close and personal look at the engine, featuring open cowlings and all.

The addition of the RR engines will come as a free update to the base package, enhancing the existing options already available. The expansion builds upon FlightFactor’s already-existing updates earlier this year, including February’s release that made Pratt & Whitney (PW) 4090 engines available. These came alongside highly detailed Engine Pressure Ratio (EPR) models, a custom-made sound package, and additional improvements that further elevated the addon.

In the real world, the Boeing 777 fleet is most commonly seen sporting General Electric’s GE90 engines, especially for the longer-range -200LR and -300ER variants, thanks mostly to their thrust and efficiency abilities. Pratt & Whitney’s engines have been widely used as well, particularly on earlier-generation -200 and -200ER aircraft, though their market share has diminished in favor of GE. Rolls-Royce Trent engines have also carved a significant niche, notably powering many of the early -200ERs, offering competitive performance and reliability, particularly among European and Asian carriers.

FlightFactor also addressed ongoing work on the aircraft’s VNAV system on social media. They noted that while substantial progress is being made, visually showcasing this development is much more challenging, especially compared to showcasing physical components like engines. As noted previously, the developers continue to plan bigger, though – planning to model nearly thirty engine models once all is said and done.
