FlightSim Studio Development Update: E-Jets FMC & Super 727

Developer FlightSim Studio has taken to its website to post a mid-year development update, highlighting what the team has been working on for both the E-Jets and 727. This announcement includes some interesting information about the status of the E-Jets’ custom FMC, as well as the reveal of a new variant of the 727, the Super 27.

E-Jets Custom FMC Progress

No doubt the most anticipated update for the E-Jets since their release back in 2022, work on the custom FMC continues at FSS. Testers are already putting early builds of it to work, and FSS has taken this opportunity to show some of the bugs they have found that have kept them busy recently. These bugs include issues such as incorrect descent calculations, incorrectly drawn arcs, and incorrectly drawn routes.

All of the bugs shown have already been fixed in the internal test versions of the aircraft, and FSS is now working on getting performance data for the FMC’s vertical and lateral path calculations. There is still no release date for this update; however, if you’d like to help test the E-Jets’ custom FMC ahead of its release, FSS encourages you to join its newsletter, where you can receive more information about how to become a tester.

727 Series and Super 27

After the release of the excellent 727-200F last year, which you can read more about here, FSS has stayed busy working on the aircraft. Just last month came the release of the passenger variant of the 727, and now, FSS has revealed that it is working on another variant of the classic jet, the Super 27.

The Super 27, or 727-200RE (re-engined), is a modification of the 727 by Valsan Partners; it replaces engines one and three with the newer JT8D-217C turbines and gives engine two a hush kit. This modification came about in 1988 to make the 727 a less noisy and more efficient aircraft to fly, and as a result, the Super 27 became quieter, around 10-12% more fuel-efficient, and gained around 300 nautical miles of additional range compared to the unmodified 727.

Along with this change of engines, FSS is planning to introduce some updated instruments, new engine gauges, and an EFIS variant that will come with a more advanced autopilot system that takes advantage of the GNS-XLS FMC in the 727. FSS also revealed that, due to high demand, it is seriously considering working on the 727-100, which could start development once work on the Super 27 is done.
