Leonardo Software House has released an update to the Fly the Maddog 20th Anniversary Edition for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. This update is punctuated by the inclusion of an MSFS 2024-native model, capitalizing on the features and technologies afforded by Microsoft’s latest flight simulation platform.
In the official announcement on the Fly the Maddog forums, team lead Stefano highlighted that the team was hard at work over the past few months on the latest update to the Fly the Maddog 20th Anniversary Edition. He emphasized that they’ve made a special effort to maintain the standard and depth of simulation that have always characterized their Maddog product since its initial release for an older generation of simulators all those years ago.
The changelog for this latest update shows that several improvements to the 3D model, animations, and level of detail (LOD) have been implemented. The landing gear, gear wells, engines, and spoilers received special attention and were all reworked for this latest version, 2.1b282. There were also improvements in the wingflex animation, and windshield wipers are now operative in the MSFS 2024-native build.
The Leonardo Software House team has also implemented weather radar tilt control, stabilization, and pitch limits to the MSFS 2024-native version, leveraging the sim’s improved functionality concerning that system. Additionally, refinements have been made to the logic governing autopilot engagement and glideslope capture. VNAV engagement logic was also corrected and is now realistically limited to the appropriate Thrust Rating Panel (TRP) modes.
As far as quality-of-life improvements are concerned, users can now instantly set fuel and payload via the built-in EFB regardless of GSX status or settings in the Fly the Maddog Manager app. METAR integration with IVAO and issues with the GSX ground power unit (GPU) have been fixed as well, and new male and female crew soundsets have been added. Several official liveries, designed specifically for the native MSFS 2024 release, are also available via the Manager app.
Stefano also reiterated his team’s commitment to supporting the Fly the Maddog 20th Anniversary Edition for MSFS 2020. As part of the announcement, he stated that the vast majority of fixes, improvements, and additions in this update that do not rely on MSFS 2024-specific features and technologies have also been implemented in the MSFS 2020 version.
This update, including the MSFS 2024-native build, comes at no extra cost to those who already own the Fly the Maddog 20th Anniversary Edition, and potential buyers now have an additional choice on where to purchase their copy of the product.
