The developers behind flyLAT, a comprehensive virtual airline system with over 200 features, have announced the flyLAT Livery Studio. Working over the past year, they have developed a program capable of turning your designs into usable and flyable liveries within the simulator with ease.

What is flyLAT Livery Studio?

Creating a livery for Microsoft Flight Simulator and actually getting it working inside the simulator is often quite a task, especially for those with little experience. Many default to numerous tutorials, and even then it’s not guaranteed it won’t break somewhere along the way. That’s what this app has been designed to solve: to make creating liveries and getting them into the simulator easier than ever before.

The Livery Studio will have two different ways to get your ideas into flyable liveries, each catering to how much complexity or time you want to put into making the livery. The first is far quicker and more suitable for those who have less time on their hands or don’t want to get too complex with designing the livery. Instead, you can upload as many images as you need, and the app will build it into a usable livery for you, sending it to the server to process. This will eventually be returned to you as a complete livery.

For those looking to have more control over your design, the app has a highly detailed image editing system with all the tools you need to make your liveries. Once you have made the livery to your liking, you submit it, and it will be sent and processed by the server behind the scenes. How long it takes is dependent on the queue, though flyLAT says most liveries should be returned to you within 30 minutes. Should there be a longer wait, it can take up to 72 hours to be processed and sent back.

After it has been processed, the app will send the completed livery back to you as a complete, usable livery ready to download and add into the simulator. It will also give you a Blender file that can be edited if you wish to tweak the livery to your liking. Should the app return your livery to you and you are not satisfied with the result, there will be a system in place to allow you to revise it to get the desired result. An important note: all of the UI you see in the images shared here is still a work in progress and is due to change between now and release.

Aircraft Support and Pricing

Before release, the developers will be working to ensure it has support for as many aircraft types as possible. Post-release, expect more to be added over time where needed. Currently, the app is only officially supported for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, though flyLAT will look at MSFS 2020 support if the demand shows. It has only been tested and confirmed working on MSFS 2024.

Pricing has been said to be generous, although the exact pricing has not been confirmed yet. The developers are working on a pricing system that is fair to everyone and will likely include some sort of token-like system giving you access to a certain number of created liveries with each payment. They plan to charge no more than £29.99 a year. Current and future flyLAT subscribers will, however, receive a discount for the app. The pricing model and details may change prior to release and what has been mentioned is not final.

Release Date and Other Information

flyLAT is currently looking at entering a closed beta in November, with an official full release date yet to be announced. flyLAT is open to suggestions from the community, and you can join their Discord Server to find out more about this program, make suggestions and request a demo of a livery. With FSimUK over, the focus is now on pushing the program to a final, complete release. You can keep up to date with flyLAT’s Livery Studio here on FSNews.
