The developer FSimStudios has brought a new rendition of Greenland’s largest airport – Nuuk to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The scenery not only brings a detailed rendition of the airport but also an interesting story about how it was created.
The Development Story
During an expedition of FSimStudios to research several airports, the team got stuck at Nuuk Airport for several days due to weather conditions. To fill their time properly, an idea of gathering data from Nuuk Airport was created, and in cooperation with the authorities of the facility and Air Greenland, which was described as incredible, the team was able to gather all the data required to create this scenery, and quietly work on it, until it has been released today.

This story shows how even a bad thing that happens can be beneficial, as the team mentions that this is the most up-to-date scenery of this airport, and is loaded with details to make it as realistic as possible.
About Nuuk Airport
Nuuk Airport is the main airport of Greenland, located near the same-named capital of the country. This airport serves as a hub for Air Greenland and links this isolated place in the world with the world.
Originally, the airport was constructed for STOL aircraft only and went through reconstruction in 2024. Last year, the airport was improved from the ground up, with a runway extension, a larger terminal and other facilities, replacing the Kangerlussuaq Airport, which served as the only airport in Greenland that could accept jet traffic.

The airport offers a wide range of destinations in Europe and the United States. United Airlines will begin operations at this airport in June this year, with its direct connection to Newark. Scandinavian Airlines will begin operations in Copenhagen the same month, and Air Greenland operates routes to Keflavík, Aasiaat, Kulusuk, and the already-mentioned Copenhagen.
FSimStudios Nuuk Features
The scenery offers a detailed rendition of this airport, with an up-to-date layout, on par with the real-world counterpart during February 2025, including the updated terminal. The whole scenery is modelled using 3D scans and airport photography, ensuring the best possible immersion.
Both interior and exterior are created in great detail, with accurate signage, lighting and layout. All of that is covered in sharp textures. The surrounding area also received improvements, using hand-crafted terrain and custom points of interest in the nearby city of Nuuk.

Using the most recent charts, the team developed runway lights as well.
