Following the announcement of Cape Town International, iniBuilds has released details about the upcoming Wolf’s Fang Runway (IATA: WFR, LID: AT98) scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The free addon marks the first detailed recreation of Antarctica’s largest commercial runway for MSFS 2024.
The almost simultaneous announcement is not a coincidence, given that Wolf’s Fang is one of the most spectacular destinations accessible via Cape Town. It is also the only runway in Antarctica capable of handling heavy-weight jets such as the A340 – another one of iniBuilds’ upcoming projects.

Wolf’s Fang Runway is a runway in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica, and is operated by White Desert, a British tour operator offering a commercial private jet service to Antarctica. The 3000m (8200′) length and 60m (196′) width of the runway are directly carved into the glacial blue ice of Antarctica. The runway operates during the Southern Hemisphere summer season, when flights operate in and out of Wolf’s Fang Runway from South Africa. The runway made worldwide news in 2021 when an Airbus A340 operated by HiFly landed at Wolf’s Fang for the very first time. Since then, HiFly has continued operating flights during the summer season.

According to IniBuilds’ announcement, the scenery package includes hand-made bespoke texture sets with custom ice and snow textures that show footprints and tracks. The developer has created custom modelled and positioned airport lighting built to suit the environment, alongside highly detailed models of nearby camps and clutter, including tents, vehicles and custom static aircraft.
IniBuilds states the scenery features an up-to-date airport layout reflecting the current real-world location, with Level of Detail optimisation for every model to encourage the best performance possible. The team has utilised the latest MSFS SDK features for optimal performance.

Sim pilots can look forward to one of aviation’s most challenging destinations. The route’s extreme nature, crossing 2600 nautical miles of water to reach an ice runway in one of Earth’s most inhospitable environments should provide a significant challenge to sim enthusiasts. IniBuilds has yet to announce a release date.
